Dear Kim: Your mom and I were "calling buddies" when I lived in Hot Springs Village, checking with each other 5 mornings a week for a couple of years. So, even though I have not met you, I have heard lots about you, and want you to know that I am sorry she has died. I do know that she had suffered a lot, so at least she is without pain now. She invited me for lunch one day this past winter, so Rosalie, Amy and I spent a couple of hours visiting and eating lunch at her kitchen table. My husband, Norm, was also a friend of your father, so we had that in common also. I am asking God to be with you and give you comfort during this time.

So sad to hear this news! Shirley was a great Mother to all us neighborhood boys in Red Oak growing up and she truly cared about us all. So lucky to have live next door to the Engquists and how I miss my buddy Brett as he passed way too early. God Bless! Jay Harms KCMO

Shirley (known as "Mickey") in high school was a lovely girl / lady. She and I graduated from Lincoln's Northeast High School in 1953. We went on to Nebraska Wesleyan. After marriage, we lived in Omaha and she and Keith in western Iowa. We visited them a few times when all our children were small. Mickey stopped by the home of my youngest daughter in Kauai when she visited there. Our high school class will be having their 65th year high school reunion in a few months. We will miss her. Sent with sympathy and love to Shirley's family. I appreciate having known this woman in my life. God bless you all always.

I met Shirley at church 2-1/2 years ago, and liked her immediately. She became one of my favorite people. I loved her no nonsense attitude and sense of humor. I enjoyed playing bridge with her, and she was an important part of Christ Lutheran's Befrienders Committee. I will miss her greatly. Mary

Dear Family, I am just finding out today about Shirley passing. I got to know her on the phone, while I worked at Hospice Home Care, we had many good talks about Iowa, my home state. We had planned in the near future to get pork tenderloins at the Shell station in the Village. I'm sorry that we did not. I am glad that I did get to meet her at a Volunteer luncheon. We connected immediately, people form Iowa just stick together. My mother is still living in Iowa (Dewitt), so I kind of felt, we were in same boat, with both our families in Iowa. Shirley was such a nice lady, I will miss her. Alice
